The Student Enterprise Group (SEG) is a new Eastern Kentucky University student association being created to support student entrepreneurship and innovation. It will be a wonderful opportunity to get in on the ground floor and help provide the ideas and leadership that will set a precedent for other schools.

— Are you a student at EKU?
Are you interested in starting your own business?
Would you like to link with a business professional who will act as your mentor?
Do you want to make your business hopes and dreams become a reality?

If so, you should consider joining SEG, the Student Enterprise Group.

SEG will hold regular meetings where students will interact with business professionals and learn more about the nuts and bolts of being an entrepreneur.

SEG will sponsor a business plan competition where students can win up to $1,000 in start-up money. By joining this year, students will be able to get in on the ground floor and help create an organization that is going to be used as model to create similar organizations on other campuses.

SEG will establish an exciting vibrant pilot organization that will serve as model for other colleges and universities in Kentucky. Phase two will include the establishment of similar clubs on other Kentucky campuses.

SEG will be an inventive participative organization that will create a valuable experience for its members by creating a unique collegiate experience that other students clubs do not fulfill.

SEG will be dedicated to inspiring, developing, and creating innovation and new ventures.

First year goals include:
• Create a model student organization.
• Recruit and generate a critical mass of club members.
• Elect officers who will provide dynamic leadership.
• Generate activities that will generate enthusiastic participation.
• Establish an advisory board of practitioners.
• Explore a more permanent basis of funding.
• Launch a business plan competition.

SEG activities will include entrepreneurial guest lectures, seminars, field trips, films, and Web site visits. In addition, a personal mentoring system will be set up to help develop club members' ideas, innovations, and new ventures. Help will be provided by making resources such as software, computers, networks, consultation, and access to funding available to SEG's members.
